Medical Center to Emergency Room (same building)

I’m not sure if it’s a money grab by the facility or if it’s because insurance will only cover a certain process for incidents. It’s probably both.

There is a medical center by our house that our family uses. Located on one side of the building is a 23-hour emergency (no beds) where they can take in many emergency situations that can be resolved within a day. Anything major gets transferred to a larger hospital. On the other side of the building is a normal medical center. They can do blood work, most scans except MRI, they do some surgeries, they have Physical Therapy, pharmacy, a few specialist offices and our PCP is based out of there.

My wife was at Physical Therapy on the 2^nd floor and had a dizzy spell, so the PT therapist called emergency. They took her downstairs and instead of wheeling her through the doors to the emergency side, they loaded her into the ambulance and proceeded to drive her around to the other side of the building and through the emergency doors. Mind you, there are doors between the two sides of the building since they share the CT scans, etc for emergencies and for normal appointments.

This just adds to our costs.
