My Wife’s Bone Cancer Diagnosis
Wow, the one thing no one wants to hear, but is unfortunately all too common.
My wife fell a couple of months ago at our neighbors, in the process she damaged her ribs, hit her head and broke her glasses. We took her to emergency. The doctor did a finger test for concussion, did a scan on the ribs and prescribed Lidocaine patches and pain meds as she was discharged.
She started having some headaches and was taking Tylenol. She finally talked to her doctor, and the doctor asked if they did a CT scan when she fell and she said no. The doctor was surprised so he scheduled one for her.
My wife went Monday morning (7/20) for the scan. She got there early and was in and out of the appointment in 7 minutes. She was excited to get it completed so quickly and was about to start her plans for the day. Within 30 minutes her doctor called to tell her the Radiologist that reviewed the CT scan found signs of Bone Cancer on her Skull. What a gut punch. Being home alone my wife ran next door to the neighbors to have them get the information the doctor was relaying since, as she called it, everything was Chinese to her, and she couldn’t understand or listen after those words. The doctor got her scheduled for another scan that afternoon. They scanned her mid-section and came back clear for Breast, Pancreas and Liver cancer. The doctor then scheduled her for a PET scan and a full blood panel.
Wow the emotions. It’s amazing how the mind works. Do you google it or not? Who do you share this with and when? Is the diagnosis accurate? The world stops. Shock, fear, anxiety and what if’s take over your thoughts. She called her side of the family and the kids. I called my parents. Both of my parents are cancer survivors (Breast and Prostate). I could barely make it through the call. It was the first time I was saying those words out loud…. bone cancer.
PET scan done. Blood work done (waiting on results). Doctors Appointment scheduled. Oncologist appointment scheduled.
Now we hurray up and wait.
Try to live this week as normal as possible. She’s feeling normal and trying to make the best of it. Her friend network is immense. She says the more that know the more prayers that can come. Keep her in your prayers as she prepares for this battle.
